[LOG] CLUB FAIR AT LUNCH

It's now a couple of weeks into school and it's about time for a real club fair hosted by the Student Council! Tables are set up around the lunchroom giving students a chance to talk to the different club presidents and members about joining. Lunch has been extended to an hour and a half today with a few of the teachers and students grilling up hot dogs and hamburgers for the student body. You were even given one of those little cards where you have to get signatures from 4 different club presidents proving you participated for credit!

Toivo looked over to Elliot, and raised his eyebrows. This short kid wanted to join the basketball team? Toivo sat up a little straighter in his chair, and, well, this kid didn't look too bad. Maybe if he joined the team Toivo wouldn't hate it so much? And if this guy was an asshole, then he can spend his time hating whoever this was rather than hating basketball.

"Are you interested in joining? The basketball team could use someone quick on their feet," Toivo said, trying to sound at least a little bit flattering.

Elliot was a little eager to compliment himself, " I'm fast, " Really he didn't want to be fast in this situation. He didn't want to be a real asset to this team.

But I mean if this nerd looking kid was on the team, even with Elliot, they wouldn't be a good team.

"Well, that's good. Uh. Here, let me get you the sign up sheet," Toivo said. He grabbed a few items from around the table and stood up to hand the papers to Elliot.

Oh, wow. This kid was even shorter than he thought. Seriously, this kid was at least a foot shorter than him. "If you sign up, we can send you information on tryouts and when practice is."

Elliot looked up at him. Oh ok so thats why he was on the team. Shit, he was so much taller than Elliot.

He stood up a little straighter, so he wasn't leaning on the table. It didn't really give him that much more height.
" Do you have a lotta practices?? "

Toivo made a face at the question. "Uh. I mean... There's... practice Monday through Friday after school... But sometimes you get to leave class early on game days!" Toivo hated leaving class early. How did he get conned into this sport? He'd rather stay in class.

He pushed the paper closer to Elliot, holding the pen out to him. "You should sign up."

Damn. Every day. Hm. He shifted from foot to foot.

" Hooowww.....long are the practices. "

Toivo shrugged a little. "I dunno, they usually go until five. It's just kind of a lot of running and shooting baskets and pretending you know what you're doing."

"But, everyone who's on the team is pretty nice. It's a good way to meet people and make friends." Toivo smiled a little, hoping to convince the Elliot to sign the goddamn papers. He was now pressing the paper and pen against the back of Elliot's hands.

Oh right. Elliot looked down at the papers and took them, glancing over them. Hm.
Hmmmmm.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....

He scrawled his name (which honestly looked like shit. ) on one of the lines, before sliding the paper back over.

"I mean, i can quit if it's not up my alley right. "

Toivo winced a little. He had tried multiple times to quit, but he had been guilted back into it each time he tried. "...Suuuuuuuure. Yeah. But you do need to have an after school activity, or you'll be forced into something," Toivo explained as he read over Elliot's name.

"What does this say? I can't read this."

Elliot frowned, snatching the paper and writing a little more carefully. Honestly, it doesn't look any better. His handwriting his awful and doesn't look like it's gotten any better from 5th grade.

" Daevin. " He huffed a little, " But I go by Elliot, but you need my """real""" name. "

"Oh, okay. Well, Elliot, I'm Toivo. The information on where practices will be will probably be sent out later this week, so keep an eye out for the information," Toivo responded with a smile. He took the sheet back and looked it over, able to decipher what Elliot had written down this time.

"I'll see you at practice then. And probably around school." He sounded honestly grateful that Elliot had signed up, and smiled widely.

Elliot shifted. This guy was weird. Hm.
" Uh, yeah. Are you a senior??"

"Huh? No... I'm a sophomore."

He frowned. "Why, do I look like a senior?"

Oh. Shit he's really tall then. This was unnecessary. He was so tall. Why.

" No I just thought only seniors worked the tables. " Elliot shrugged.

Why was he so tall. Elliot tried to stand a little taller.

"Ah, yeah... I kind of just got roped into working the table," Toivo said, scratching the back of his head. He slouched a little, wanting to shrink into nothing. Were there even any seniors on the basketball team? Toivo couldn't remember. There were so few people as it was... "I don't think being a senior is a requirement to work the tables. It's mostly just whatever poor sap they can get to sit behind here while everyone else gets to look around the club fair."

He wasn't bitter. Naw.

" Do you get like. Extra credit or anything for running the table?? "

"No extra credit, but I don't have to get those stupid signatures like everyone else."

Toivo blinked and grabbed the pen from the table. "That reminds me, I need to sign your paper so you can prove you went around to different clubs."

" Oh, yeah. "

He pat down his pockets for the slip. Then through his bag. Damnit.
It took a few minutes before Elliot pulled out the slip. It was crumpled and ripped a little already. They got these maybe an hour ago, maybe. Elliot how.

Toivo took the slip and tried to flatten it out as best he could on the table. He signed his name and what table he was at. "Okay," he said, handing the paper back to Elliot. His handwriting was neat and easily legible. "Now you've just got three more to go and you'll be good. You don't need to join all the clubs you're going to visit, but you need the signatures for credit."

" That's lame. why do i have to look at the others if i already signed for one. "

"To make sure that you spend as much as your time doing this instead of getting into trouble." Toivo rolled his eyes. "Why don't you just find other club leaders that will just sign your slip? Or that you can just tune out so you look like you're interested in stuff and get the signature?"

Elliot groaned. Yeah, okay, nerd.
"Yeah, yeah. See you at practice. "
Though probably not.

"See ya," Toivo said, waving a little. He sighed and sat back down at the table. He hated sitting here.
