[COLLEGE AU] WELCOME WEEK

Check out the club fair! Attendance not required, but everyone knows extracurriculars look great on a resume.

"Oh!! Right! Sorry about that. I'm just having to run between two tables, is all. I'm on the track team, and I also help run the engineering & robotics club!"

Rocco wiped the sweat off his brow, and his fellow robotics club members looked a little annoyed with him - like he clearly did not have to be running between two tables at once. He seemed oblivious to their glances. A new potential recruit!

"Anyway!! Are you interested in joining the engineering & robotics club?? We have lots of cool robots you can help us build and enter in competitions!!"

Rocco grabbed one of the small machines on the table, a small arachnid-looking creature, and began to operate it with a remote controller. It sputtered to life and crawled across the table, but seemed to short out as it collapsed mid-way through its crawl.

"Aw, man...not another circuit problem..." Rocco scratched his chin and began fiddling with the machine on the table.

For some reason this college freshman is wearing very genuinely tailored garments and he pushes up his glasses, ogles Rocco with big blue eyes. The other students at the table glance between them, and Honey shrinks back just a bit more. Attention is not what he was going for, but, well. At least the first person who took notice of him seemed? Friendly? If completely frazzled?

"Oh. I have no experience, with, er. Anything. Mechanical." He does, however, pick up one of the small machines on the table and turns it over, observing one of the exposed circuitboards.

Suddenly forgetting that he was whispering previously as if to match the timid freshman's level, Rocco's voice suddenly vacillates to a loud, excitable chatter. "OH! You don't have to have experience!!! That's what a club's for, silly! You come to learn about cool stuff."

In his over-exuberance, he carelessly waved his hands around while speaking, causing pieces of the small robot to fall off, but he
seemed to take no notice.

"Awe, wait! Where are my manners! What's your name??" Rocco held out his hand, repeating, "I'm Rocco!"

"Oh, Honey." He pauses and realizes how that sounds, and clarifies. "My name is Honey."
He reaches out a hand and takes Rocco's hand, shakes it firmly and professionally. It's clearly a handshake he's practiced for interviews. He glances at the other students and notices someone roll their eyes, and that makes him pout just a little? And he's so much more determined to actually befriend this very fast very blue young man.
"Nice to meet you. Is there an application?"

Rocco flashed Honey a giant beaming smile. "Honey! Wow!! What a cool name...I wish I could be named after a tasty food...bees must really like you!" He trailed off, completely losing the plot before someone at the table next to him elbowed him sharply.

"OH RIGHT. Hmm...an application?" Rocco studied the young white haired boy, his brow furrowed. "Oh! You mean like a sign-up sheet!" He pushed a clipboard with a sheet and a pen towards Honey. "Just put down your name, and your email, and uh, yeah."

Grinning a little sheepishly, he leaned forward and whispered – not quite softly enough for it to effectively make it private – "Don't worry, there isn't an application for clubs usually! Everyone's allowed in!"

He stood back, a little proud to have what is clearly his first successful sign-up of the day.

Honey flushes a vibrant shade of red and glances down at the sheet, up at Rocco. Bees, yeah. He studies bees. Bees are like, his thing. He takes the sheet in both hands and writes down his name in precise, exacting script, and then his school assigned email. "Oh-- good. Thank you. I've never really joined a club before?"

Well, he's been in clubs. But he didn't go about joining them of his own volition. He hands the clipboard back over and pushes his glasses up the bridge of his nose once more.
