Who: Nifty, Cassidy
What: Cassidy needs help in class. Nifty is required to do tutoring as part of his student government duties.

When: After class

Nifty settled into the library armchair and put his feet up on the coffee table, opening up the book he was reading for English. There was no reason to think anyone would actually show up for the tutoring - no one had yet this year, after he'd successfully developed a reputation last year. His weekly required "office hours" functioned more as study hours for him.

He couldn't believe he was doing this. Cassidy would NOT be doing this unless his teachers had very clearly told him that it would help, and Mr. Trosky was one of the few he respected enough to listen to. He didn't even know who the tutor was but after Andrew was insistent that whoever it was would be the perfect one to get Cassidy to understand economics.

Maybe it was Harper, Julian's older brother was really nice. Or maybe Atlas? Certainly it couldn't be Nifty fucking Strangenorth lounging in an arm chair with a stack of various textbooks.

Surely Cassidy Calloway wasn't coming over here - dammit, yes he was. Why was he here? Oh, good, he'd realized that it was Nifty sitting in the chair and stopped. Obviously he was considering whether or not it was worth it to continue on, glancing back at the library door longingly. Nifty raised his eyebrows at Cassidy. He could only stand there for so long before reasonably pretending to move past Nifty to use the library computers. Make a decision.

Oh fuck they made eye contact. Strangenorth was staring him down, daring him to make a move.

Cassidy, as well as he could make it look natural, turned 180 degrees and left the library.

Not worth it.

Next week, same time, same place, same deal. But the last thing Nifty expected was for Cassidy to show up again. This time Nifty actually put down his reading for art (and really, readings for art class? Was that really necessary?) and gave Cassidy an expectant look. What, was he going to pretend he'd accidentally walked into the library two weeks in a row?

Mr. Trosky had written him very clear instructions on what to do and make sure to get Nifty's signature to prove that he did actually go. Cassidy had been mentally preparing for the past 4 hours, and especially the past 4 minutes as he walked up the stairs to the library. He could handle Nifty Strangenorth. He could sit there and fucking get through this and all it would take is sitting down across from him as the first step.

But you know what? Nifty's signature wasn't that hard to forge. At least he made it a step farther than the previous week as he "tch'd" and turned and left after making eye contact.

By the next week, Nifty was expecting Cassidy to show up. In fact, he was sort of looking forward to it, which was why he made it a point not to show up on time. Since Cassidy had shown up at 3:30 both the previous weeks, he strolled in carrying his textbooks around 3:40. By now, Cassidy would have to be waiting for him or have run away again.

Cassidy was sitting in Nifty's chair. HIS feet propped up on the table and listening to his ipod, paging through his econ textbook.

Nifty stood directly in front of him. "Are you actually here for tutoring this week, or did you get lost again?" he said loudly to interrupt Cassidy's music.

"Well its a good thing you showed up eventurally to help me with my directional skills."

He took out his headphones and took his feet off the table.

Nifty looked at him expectantly, waiting for him to get out of the chair. That chair was definitely the best of the group - it didn't have any creaky springs or mysterious stains - which was why he'd claimed it as his own.

Cassidy did not like nifty looking at him to begin with, but having all of Nifty's attention turned to staring at Cassidy made him want to sink into the chair. He couldn't handle how when Nifty looked at him it made him completely unsure of himself and kicked up his adreneline. Cassidy wanted to leave he did not want to be here! Why the fuck was he doing this again? God dammit why wouldn't he just say something.

"You are the school tutor aren't you?"

"Yes, which is why I'm wondering why you're sitting in the tutor's chair." Nifty waved a hand, motioning for Cassidy to get out. "Unless you think you have something to teach me..."

His expression indicated that that was doubtful.

Was nifty really throwing a fit over a chair? He must know that would make Cassidy not want to move more. "Because you were late"

But Cassidy stands up anyways.

"So what are you here for?" Nifty asks, taking his rightful place. "I doubt you would've come to me for help unless you really need it."

Cassidy sits down in the chair across from Nifty. Yeah Nifty definitely had a better chair than this one.

"You're supposed to be good at economics right?"

The next week Nifty waited in the same spot, on time this time. No one else was going to show up, but the Calloway kid probably would. It seemed like he was getting something by the end of last week, but an economics master he was not yet.

Cassidy waited in his dorm anxiously until it was the perfect time for him to leave and be about 3 minutes late. He picked up his textbook and shuffled out the door looking at the ground. It was the quickest way to get his homework done. Nifty was the best person to ask.

He came over and sat down across from the upperclassman. "Hey"

"How was your weekend," Nifty deadpanned, looking utterly disinterested. "Did you do anything fun. Go to any wild parties. Get wasted."

None of those statements actually sounded like questions.

Cassidy looked up at him to see if Nifty was just making a lucky guess. He wasn't. Of course he fucking wasn't. God fucking dammit no one had brought it up to his face yet and here he was throwing it out on the table. Why the fuck did Nifty care about what was quite seriously the worst night of his life.

"Any particular reason you care so much about the worst night of my life?"

Actually, Nifty didn't really know the details, just that there had been a party last weekend that seemingly the majority of the student population had attended. And frankly, he wouldn't normally care at all about what Cassidy got up to on the weekends - he'd asked more sarcastically than out of actual interest. But when Cassidy unexpectedly freaked out about it, he saw an opportunity to get...something, maybe.

He raised his eyebrows. "That's a dramatic way to describe it."

Cassidy doesn't say anything back. He just slowly begins to take out his textbook and homework, not even looking back at his tutor.

Nifty shrugs and pulls out a pen. "Well, if you think you can concentrate on learning economics with the 'worst night of your life' weighing on your mind..."

"Why weren't you there?"

Nifty just gives him a look. Do I really look like the kind of person who would go to a high school party?

Cassidy rolls his eyes. "You didn't miss anything. Loud football team, annoying freshman kids and Eli being more of an asshole than usual"
