[LOG] FIELD TRIP

Who: Nature club + anyone who signed up
What: CAMPING
When: Saturday morning-Sunday afternoon
Where: A campground a few hours off campus

The fact that Roshan had taken it upon herself to organize anything was a little strange but she figured she owed nature club one for ditching almost every event so far this year. She'd rented out a pretty sizable campsite for the night and even arranged for a bus from campus to ensure everyone could get there. The campsite itself was equipped with a water pump, outhouses, bear boxes and was situated right next to a creek. Not a bad setup but no cabins. Hopefully everyone had followed her instructions to bring their own supplies and tents but she had brought a few extra just in case.

Roshan and Hadi are there to greet the bus as it arrives. Her big white dog already looks like he's enjoyed the outdoors a bit. There are a few tents set up already but it's still looking pretty sparse.

Toivo never missed an event for nature club. Or a meeting. Half the time he was the only one there, though, so it just ended up being him taking care of the school garden. Also, most of his friends didn't really give a shit about nature or gardens, so it was a nice break from them.

Thanks to his employee discount, he was able to get a decent 2 person tent at Walmart, but other than that he didn't have a whole lot other than the necessities. He hopped off the bus, dragging his bags with him, and stopped as soon as he saw who was waiting for them. Just his fucking luck. "Shit."

To make Toivo's day even better Alexei had already claimed that extra spot in Toivo's tent. He was wearing his usual attire, black, red and from only hot topic. But today was special and he was wearing these open toed shoes?? They had the toes and heels cut out and folded down at the tops. Looked hella impractical to wear and not at all good for jumping from tree to tree like Alexei had been talking about earlier.

Toivo looked at Alexei's shoes. "Alexei... why are you wearing those goddamned Naruto shoes?"

He was going to get some sort of foot fungus and Toivo didn't want that at all. No thank you.

"Here I brought a second pair for you!" Alexei holds out a pair just toivo's size

Roshan can only look on in horror and thinly veiled disgust as guess who is the first one off the bus. Shitstache and- no wait he'd shaved his mustache. She'd have to come up with a better nickname later. Nickname or no, here he was exchanging some godforsaken hideously impractical footwear with one of the school's pickings of goth kids.

Hadi bounds up happily, tail wagging as he greets the new faces. Roshan can only stare on furiously. While it looked like unwinding was no longer on the schedule for this weekend, she wasn't sure yet whether it was going to be replaced by something more entertaining or alternatively more annoying.

After flatly refusing the shoes that Alexei offered, Toivo turned to see a big dog bounding up to him. Okay, so Roshan was here (WHY. SHE NEVER CAME TO NATURE CLUB NORMALLY), but so was her dog, who was obviously happy to see new faces. Toivo knelt down and held out his hand to Hadi, letting him sniff it before he even attempted to pet the dog. As far as he could tell, animals tended to like him, which was kind of weird since no one else did. Except Eivee. And Alexei. But Alexei just tried to give him shitty shoes so he didn't know how great that was going for him.

Softly, Toivo said to the dog, "Hello puppy. I didn't know you'd be here. What's your name?"

He was just glad it wasn't a cat. He was so glad it wasn't a cat.

"Hadi," Roshan responds with obviously false cheeriness. "His name is Hadi." The dog sniffs Toivo then eagerly brushes his nose against his hand, attitude very at odds with his owner's. But he was a dog after all what did she expect. "Glad you could make it," she continues as her fake smile strains against her teeth. "I don't think I caught your names." She extends a hand to Toivo first seeing as Alexei's hands are full of shoes.

Toivo smiled widely at Hadi and said hello to the dog, scratching him behind the ears excitedly. If Hadi liked Toivo so much, then Roshan couldn't be that bad, right? She just. Seemed to have it out for him. With her glares.

Terrifying.

He looked up in response and stood up a little bit, keeping his left hand on Hadi and continuing to scratch him. Thanks to his annoyingly long arms, he could still reach the dog (okay Hadi was kind of jumping on him now), and shake Roshan's hand. "Yeah, um. I actually really like camping." He gripped her hand hesitantly at first, but then firmed his grip. "Toivo. Is my name, I mean." He gestured with his head over to the boy next to him. "That's Alexei. He probably already knows all about you." He definitely said the last line as a warning to Roshan.

"Toivo. Glad to finally put a name to the face." Roshan grasps Toivo's hand very firmly. Uncomfortably so. Being the shortest member of the volleyball team has equipped her with just enough experience to somehow look down her crooked nose at him despite his height. Though the boy's slouch certainly helps. "I'm glad to hear you enjoy camping, I'm sure we're going to have a lot of fun this weekend." She beams with the obvious strain of trying to sound genuine.

"Is that so?" she withdraws her hand from Toivo's and scratches her neck thoughtfully. Tilting her head to the side she continues, "Well you and I and Alexei will just have to get to know each other better then won't we?"

"Ow..." he whispers, not trying to hide the fact that her handshake hurt. He shrunk a little at her glare, and had the distinct feeling that he was not welcome. "Um, yeah. I hope we can have fun." He continued to scratch Hadi's head.

He smiled a little, though it didn't quite reach his eyes, and he nodded. "Yeah... get to know each other." He looked around a little and then asked, "Do you need help with anything? Like setting up camp?"

No.

"No."

Diedrich stumbled as he got off the bus. Whoops! He caught himself and regained his balance. He took a look around. Wow, this is really pretty! He's so glad Torra was able to find some old camping gear so that he could go.

This is gonna be so fun!

Oh hey it was this kid again.

"I didn't know you were in the nature club-" WHAT WAS HIS NAME. "...."

"Oh, hey!" Diedrich's smile widened (if that was even possible) when he recognized who was talking to him.

"I'm not in the club, actually, but I might join if you guys do things like this a lot!" He stuck out his hand. "I never really got to thank you for helping me out at the party. I'm Diedrich!"

When Teak heard about the camping trip, it wasn't even a decision to go. She just knew she was going without a thought about it. And when she steps off the bus, she has to pause and take a deep breath. The place isn't as perfect as she would have liked, but it's still nature and isolated from society and such a nice break from the school.

Of course, Teak only has a backpack with a few kinds of food in it -- she does happen to enjoy some of the food that she can procure in the city -- and a change of clothes, but that's all she carries. Who needs a tent or eating utensils or any of that? Certainly not Teak!

Roshan was certain she'd remember a girl with such... colorful style choices. Yet she couldn't quite seem to place where she had seen Teak before. It would help if Roshan actually attended any of the normal nature club events.

"Welcome, glad you could make it!" she gives Teak a practiced smile and nod. Eyeing her bags or lack thereof, she says, "We have extra tents already set up if you would like to put your things in one of those."

"Thanks! I'm Teak." She holds out her hand for the other to shake. What a nice girl! While a lot of the people Teak happened to meet so far were kind of mean, she's also met her fair share of nice people, too. It's one of the reasons she actually does enjoy being at school.

At the suggestion of putting her things in a tent, Teak laughs. "No, it's okay! Save the tents for other people. I'm going to sleep outside! Maybe in a tree or I'll make a shelter or something."

"Oh you were at the party!" Teak's odd mannerisms very suddenly jogged Roshan's memory about the whole spin the bottle debacle. She hadn't paid a ton of attention after the fight and was pretty drunk at that point but she distinctly remembered Teak's round. Or at least she did now.

Hey we both made out with the same girl at a party was maybe not the best course of conversation though. Besides, "A... a tree?"

Teak grinned. "Yeah! I was!" She remembered the other girl being at the party as well, playing that spin the bottle game. She couldn't really remember who the other had kissed, but that wasn't very important.

"Yep, a tree. I used to do it all the time. If you find the right tree and the right branch, it can be really comfortable. But if I can't find one, I'll just make up a shelter. Those are super easy."

Ruari loves nature club and there was no way she'd miss a camping trip. She hops out of the bus and grabs her tent and bag containing all of the camping essentials. She is prepared for pretty much any situation that could arise.

Ruari grew up on family camping trips, but is definitely glad to have the chance to go on one with her classmates and not... her parents...

"Roro!" Easton jumps the last step of the bus. "Are you pumped for this weekend?"

He's carrying what looks like enough luggage for at least two people, including one of those "Artie and Easton Emergency Bag"s that people find all over the place. This one was number 7.

Meekus made sure all the students and their luggage were off the bus before he exited. Of course a camping trip needed a staff supervisor. Seeing the kids outside of school and in the natural world was sure going to be interesting!

Artie stumbled down the bus steps behind Easton, nearly losing his balance but succeeding in not toppling the heck over. His hands gripped at the RPG-style backpack he had strapped to himself. You'd think the boy was hitchhiking with just how much junk he had, and his rolled up sleeping bag added to the effect. A honest-to-goodness lantern clanged against (one of the) frying pans he had dangling from his pack.

His grin was genuine enough to instill warmth in even their economics teacher.

"Careful!" Easton says holding his free arm out. Mostly a reaction by now. Man, Artie was such a clutz you gotta watch out for this guy.

"I'm fine!!" he assured before moving so more students could get off the bus. BOY was Artie excited. He hadn't gone camping since he went camping with his parents five weeks ago!!!

"This campsite is really nice!" he exclaimed, leaning over to Easton but speaking loud enough that anyone could have heard.
