[log] you're all in big trouble

who: Everyone
what: Ms. Strangenorth has pulled every student into the gym right after last period and you're all in trouble.
where: The gym
when: If she has to keep you here all night, she will.

Rosalind stared stonily at each and every student as they filed into the gym. Under her gaze, even the innocent ones looked away guiltily as if she knew every class they'd skipped over the past four years.

Once they were all seated on the rows of bleachers, she continued to stare, arms folded, until everyone was sweating with nerves.

"Which one of you," she said with the cold of a thousand winters in her voice. "Put Mr. Calloway's car on the roof of the school."

cassidy's turn

Meekus stepped back into the gym. "Cassidy, you're up next," he called, beckoning to the younger Calloway sibling.

are you fucking kidding me

Cassidy felt his stomach sink as he whipped his head over to the middle of the room. Sure enough, Mr. Marcus was waving him over, and the rest of the students were looking right at him. He slowly reached up and pulled his headphone out of his ear. Was that annoying kid next to him saying something? It didn't matter all he could hear was his own heart beating.

Mr. Marcus didn't need to call him out in front of the whole school like this did he? He's the damn guidance councilor he should know that Cassidy actively avoids attention as much as possible. And really didn't need the hoots and hollers he was getting as he walked down the bleachers, squaring his shoulders and trying to look like he wasn't having a battle of wits with himself.

He followed Mr. Marcus out the main door without saying anything.

Meekus winced when he saw Cassidy was practically shaking with nerves. He'd forgotten that the middle Calloway sibling wasn't nearly as extroverted as his brother and sister.

"Look, Cassidy, I'm not accusing you of anything," he said gently. "But if you know anything about how this happened, it'd be a really big help. I'll continue to interview people after you so nobody can pin you down for snitching."

Cassidy crossed his arms, well it wasn't so much crossing as holding onto the outside of his arms. He took a deep breath and and closed his eyes for a second to calm himself down. "I don't care about this stupid prank."

"You may not care, but a few people's refusal to rat out their friends is making the entire school be punished. Does that sound fair to you? Now, would you rather go back and sit there for hours until Ms. Strangenorth decides you've all been punished enough, or would you like to tell me what you know?"

The boy honestly looked panicked. He must know something about his brother's prank.

"I'd rather go back to my room so I don't have to walk in there with the entire school watching me like that again." He muttered.

Mr. Marcus was really trying to get him to talk. Whatever. It didn't matter, Cassidy was screwed anyways. He'd have to hide in his room for a few days before this passes over now. And he had just started feeling comfortable enough to sit out in the lounge.

"I'll let you go back to your room if you just tell me your brother was involved in the prank," Meekus offered.

Cassidy looked over at Meekus and studied him for a moment.

"Sorry Mr. Marcus, I was in a tutoring session the whole time with Mr. Strangenorth so I don't fail that class too. There's no way for me to have know if my brother did it because phones aren't allowed in class."

Meekus sighed and closed his eyes. "Fine. Go back to your seat on the bleachers. But Cassidy - if you ever need to talk, my office is open. And you can always call me or send me an online message."

From the amount of stress Cassidy was showing just from this encounter, he clearly needed to learn some relaxation and coping techniques.

Cassidy looked at him with a confused expression on his face. "Considering how helpful this talk has been. I'd rather not"

"For counseling purposes, not snitching," Meekus quickly clarifies. "You seem like you're under a lot of stress lately, and I'm sure this situation hasn't helped. I know the teen years are full of emotional highs and low, but if it ever feels like you're having more lows than highs, talking about why you're feeling that way can really help you out. My office is a safe space for anyone, but if you don't feel comfortable talking to an adult, see if you can find a friend willing to lend an open ear. Anyway," he smiles and pats Cassidy on the shoulder. "I've got to keep on interviewing people, I guess."

"I'm 16, failing classes and spend most of my time locked in my room listening to fall out boy." Cassidy spit out "Yeah I think I hit my 'low' quota like any other teenager. And now i'm being bribed to make up shit by the guidance councilor. It was a good deal Mr. Marcus but,"

He starts unwinding his (black) headphones as he walks to the door. "I'm fine."

That was bullshit and he knew it.
